Preparing the Images

The default applet requires 11 separate image files, all of which must be same width and height. They must be GIF files, and should have a transparent background. You should not anti-aliase the images if you will be using them against a background image that is not a solid color.

The images needed include eight moving-image files, two stopped-image files, and one clicked-image file that, matching the following action postures and naming conventions:

• Two of the files will portray upward movements. They must have the names imove1.gif and imove2.gif.
• Two of the files will show movements to the right. They must have the names imove3.gif and imove4.gif.
• Two of the files portray downward movements. They must have the names imove5.gif and imove6.gif.
• Two of the files show movements to the left.They must have the names imove7.gif and imove8.gif.
• Two of the files will be used for stop positions. They must have the names istop1.gif and istop2.gif.
• The image file that shows when the mouse is clicked must have the name iclick1.gif.

  Parameters you can add or change:

• directory is an optional tag that lets you specify a path to your images if they are in another directory. The default is same directory as the applet.
• speed controls the speed of the mascot's movements. The default is 4.
• nimgs lets you change the number of stop- position image files. It must be an even number. The default is 2.
• background_color establishes the background color value, which takes a six-character hex value. The default is light gray.
• background_image allows you to designate an image file name for the background, which must be a GIF or JPEG file.
